One of the most common mistakes runners make, (regardless of their level of experience) is skipping out on a Dynamic Warm Up before running.
Why use it?
You are preparing your body the right way – It elevates your heart rate without shocking your systems into performance. It gets your blood flowing and lubricates your joints. It wakes up your brain and the nerves that reach into those muscle fibers that are about to do some good work! When done right, you get a little stretch at the end of each range and you can step into your pace sooner in your run!
It’s more effective than traditional 1 minute hold stretches – A Dynamic Warm Up uses all dimensions of motion – because here’s the thing – running isn’t really just a straight line forward – although we move in a forward direction, what happens INSIDE your body to make that happen is multi-dimensional. Preparing your body in all directions will help it to perform better when you actually start running.
It’s more time efficient – 5 minutes of a dynamic warm up vs.10 minutes of feeling stiff and uncomfortable before you feel like you are really ready to run – you decide.
BONUS – In a pinch – it’s a great cool down too!
Give it a try here , and run a little bit better this week!
